Vintage 1970s Powderhorn Mountaineering Jackson Hole Colour Block Ski Jacket, Large

Condition: Good true vintage condition with general signs of age and previous wear throughout. There are some small marks, areas of wear and minor imperfections visible to the outer shell, consistent with an original ski jacket of this age. An absolutely incredible original vintage Powderhorn Mountaineering ski jacket from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, dating from approximately the late 1970s to early 1980s.

This is exactly the sort of piece that makes true vintage outdoor clothing so special. Powderhorn Mountaineering emerged from Jackson Hole's burgeoning ski culture and became renowned during the 1970s and early 1980s for distinctive technical outerwear combining serious mountain functionality with unmistakably bold Western-inspired design.

This jacket is a fantastic example.

The outer is constructed in an incredible royal blue, mustard yellow and vivid orange colour combination, with Powderhorn's characteristic Western-style pointed shoulder yoke running across the chest and back. The bright yellow front zipper, orange storm flap and oversized insulated orange collar make an already striking jacket even better.

The jacket features a full zip front with snap fastening storm flap, two large chest pockets, adjustable Velcro cuffs, snap detailing and a heavily insulated interior. Inside is an additional zippered security pocket.

The original woven Powderhorn Mountaineering – Jackson Hole, Wyoming mountain label remains beautifully intact at the neck.

Powderhorn's distinctive multi-coloured jackets became closely associated with Jackson Hole skiing during the 1970s. Period recollections describe customers selecting contrasting materials and colours for the yoke, body and lining, resulting in the wonderfully individual combinations for which the original jackets are now remembered.

A genuinely special survivor from the golden age of American ski and outdoor clothing.
